I am so happy to share my thoughts about this book. It is a great children's story about a "Polar Dog". What is a "Polar Dog"?! Well, that is exactly what I discovered in reading this delightfully funny, heart-warming, adventure story. Good for all ages, not only children, but yes, those who can remember what it is like to be a kid, or want to remember what it is like to be a kid. Great characters! Great moral to the story and it is fun to read! With a glossary in the back of the book. Where is the next book? I hope we get another adventure out of this soon . . .Product details

Polar Dog is an interesting and creative story geared towards children but truly interesting to children and adults alike. With great illustrations and a heartwarming story, this book is a gem. I bought it for my nephew a bit prematurely, (only 9 months at the moment) but I cannot wait to read this story to him. My sister and brother in law have a not so tiny dog as well, and I'm hoping when Jackson is old enough to follow along he'll feel like his Travis, is his very own Polar Dog. Spread it around, this book is fantastic and inventive. There aren't enough stars to rate it!
While this book is written for children, I'm 72 years old and I have never enjoyed any book as much as I have this book. Bob Lyons gives the reader the opportunity to be any character in this book and to live Polar Dogs life with him. I had the rare opportunity to share Bob Lyons life when we were both just pups ourselves in Albany, New York, and I assure you that this book is about a real dog who's name was Arrow and was loved in real life as he is in the book. Bob, through this book you allow this old timer to be young again!

I recently had the great pleasure of reading Polar Dog and absolutely loved it! I found it to be lovely, humourous and heartfelt...a great read for kids and their parents. The characters were quite memorable and I could easily see this becoming a wonderful animated feature (Dreamworks Animation or Pixar...are you listening?). Polar Dog's journey is the kind of great adventure that is ideal in animated films or perhaps a children's series on television. Meanwhile I look forward reading the sequel! Without giving too much away, the story leaves us with a bit of a cliffhanger and eagerly awaiting to find out what becomes of Polar Dog and his friends. Congrats to the author for the success of Polar Dog and looking forward to the sequels!!
Polar Dog is an entertaining and sweet story about family, friendship, love, loyalty, sacrifice and perseverance. Robert F. Lyons is an excellent storyteller and tells this story so simply but it's appeal, I feel, is universal. I can't wait to give this to my grandchildren. PERFECT reading for an evening at home with the whole family!
"Polar Dog" is a really fine and fun story for young readers. Stories like this one encourage young children to read, and are as such a foremost means of education. I used to love taking turns reading books to schoolkids every few weeks, as a member of an executive team I worked with, and "Polar Dog" is ideal such reading material. "Polar Dog" is such a good story, I'm inspired to find a way to share it with young readers. I highly recommend "Polar Dog"!
In "Polar Dog" Robert F. Lyons tells an amusing and straightforward tale of a young Polar Bear who doesn't quite fit in. Rather than make his character the brunt of jokes, bullying and teasing, the author moves the story forward with the other animals helping the unfortunate bear to a new adventure in a much warmer climate!
The lessons learned by Polar Dog in the story are lessons that will teach and encourage children to help each other in times of adversity, and to rely on their inner strengths in difficult situations.
Because Mr. Lyons was inspired to write this story by his family's dog Arrow , children may also learn by example that they too may expand their creativity inspired by the daily, real-life events around them.
Also, Robert F. Lyons does not write "down" to a child's level. He does not hesitate to introduce the reader to new and larger words. A glossary in the back of the book further educates the reader! I personally find this refreshing !
I really liked Polar Dog! I can see parents enjoying reading this to their kids.
An sweet undersized polar bear cub who isn't as fond of the cold as the usual polar bear creates a dilemma for his loving mom who is concerned for his survival and happiness. The way she solves this problem starts this story on it's way with delightful twists and turns and surprises in a journey for happiness and identity.
It's a charming and playful story with caring interactions. Disney type animations go through my head in some scenes.
